Stroke

Stroke is a common and very serious condition.

Every year more than 795,000 Americans suffer strokes (CDC).

Also known as transient ischemic attack or cerebrovascular accident, stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is blocked. (National Institutes of Health)

Some symptoms include Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.

This month is National Stroke Awareness Month.

The goals of this year's campaign are to help reduce stroke risk and take people behind the scenes of what happens when someone experiences a stroke.

Additional stroke symptoms include sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.

Difference between Annuities and Life Insurance

Both life insurance and annuities can provide vital protection. Life insurance provides protection for loved ones when you die; annuities can provide a guaranteed lifetime income for you.

A common annuity goal: to make sure you won't outlive your assets or your money.

Senior Home Ownership

Recent statistics showed that home ownership among people age 65 and over had reached about 79.50%

Sources say that staying in your own home is considered to be an affordable way for seniors to live — if you do not need comprehensive care.

These tender and juicy pork chops require only a few ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 boneless center cut pork chops, about 1" thick
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • olive oil for frying

DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 425°. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. In a shallow bowl, combine bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and black pepper to taste.

Season flour on a shallow plate with salt and pepper to taste. In another shallow bowl, add the whisked egg. Dab the pork chops dry with a paper towel and lightly dredge in flour. Dip each pork chop into the egg, coating all sides.

Dip the pork chop into the bread crumb mixture. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Brown pork chops for 1-3 minutes per side.

Place each chop on prepared baking sheet and bake for about 12-14 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 145°. Do not overbake. Rest 5 minutes before serving.
